Getting Started
By C. Clark
Lately, I’ve become aware that getting started is the hardest part for me. With that awareness, I’ve been reminding myself of a time from my childhood—riding my bike in Kansas City, Missouri.
I taught myself how to ride a bike (I also taught my neighbor-friend, but that’s a story for another time). What I remember most is how much effort it took just to get going. I had to balance the bike with one foot on the ground and the other on the pedal. Then push off—hard—with that foot on the ground. Once the bike was rolling, I could lift my foot and start pedaling. But even then, it took real effort to find that steady rhythm, the balance, the flow.
And yet… once I was riding, it was pure joy. I didn’t think about how hard it had been to start—I was too busy flying down the street, exploring new places, and feeling free.
Nourishment : I give myself permission to just start. It doesn’t have to be perfect. In fact, my motivation and excitement grow as I move forward. I celebrate new beginnings—and enjoy the ride.
